XRD study of the surface of aluminum alloy AK5M7 after electric-spark alloying

The article presents the results of X-ray diffraction studies phase composition, substructure, and residual stresses in surface layer AK5M7 alloy for different energy levels during electric-spark alloying (ESA) using a copper electrode. micro-distortion values were estimated from parameters crystal lattice grains which reflection planes are parallel to sample surface. Three phases, i. e., aluminum, silicon, intermetallic compound (Al2Cu), found, fraction increases with ESA energy. It could be reasoned intensify micro-metallurgical processes modified due high thermomechanical effects. tensile Al compressive Al2Cu. at about 0.39 J yielded maximum stresses. Due large temperature gradient, variant thickness specific volume / density observed over layer. An increase resulted formation chaotic distribution grains. model qualitatively explains emergence one or another preferred orientation coatings based on ratio between deformation energies. obtained beneficial improving modification low-melting materials by treatment optimizing process.
